Series of small satellites for high resolution land observation (gao fen = high resolution)., to implement the China High-resolution Earth Observation System (CHEOS)
Chinese programme: CNSA responsible, development and operations by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST).
The satellites are actively stabilised over 3 axes.
The design lifetime is 8 years (6 for GF-1 and GF-2)
The orbits are sunsynchronous around 10:30 or 06:00 or 13:30, except for GF-4 that is in GEO.
GF-5 and DQ-1 are atmospheric environmental monitoring satellites.
