OSCAR/Requirements is the official repository of user requirements for observation of physical variables in support of WMO Programmes and co-sponsored programmes. The requirements are maintained by the focal points designated for each application area.

OSCAR/SPace is a resource provided by WMO in support of Earth Observation studies and global satellite mission coordination. Satellite systems and plans are evolving. The information contained in OSCAR is updated on by the WMO Secretariat to the best of its knowledge, with the support of space agencies.
The assessments contained in OSCAR were performed according to objective criteria, based on instrument design characteristics, and submitted to validation by international expert teams (mainly the WMO/CBS. Expert Team on Satellite Systems ET-SAT). These assessments only reflect a relative, and generally qualitative, evaluation. This general, first level analysis does not replace a detailed analysis of instrument performances or of the quality of derived environmental data records for a specific user application.
