BackForward Satellite Programme: Hai Yang 1

Programme details
Programme description
  • Series of satellites for ocean colour observation.  "Hai Yang" = "Ocean".
  • Chinese programme: CAST responsible of development, NSOAS of operations.
  • The platforms are actively stabilised over 3 axes.
  • The design life time is 2 years for HY-1A,  6 years for follow-on.
  • The satellites exploit the sunsynchronous orbit around 10:30.
  • The replacement policy is based on launching satellites in sequence, roughly 6 months before the expected end-of-life of a satellite.
  • HY-1E/F will be a new generation of the satellites with improved sensors.
  • See detailed description at https://directory.eoportal.org/missions/hy-1a.
Data circulation
  • Data stored onboard and transmitted to receiving stations in Beijing and SanYa .
  • Real-time transmission to X-band stations in Beijing, Hangzhou, SanYa and Mudanjiang.
