Single-satellite experimental programme addressing the Global Energy and Water-cycle Experiment (GEWEX), contributing to the Global Precipitation Measurement mission (GPM) constellation. "Megha" is the Sanskrit word for “Cloud”.
Joint French-Indian programme: ISRO responsible of platform, launch, two instruments (one purchased from ASI) and operations, CNES responsible of two instruments.
The platform is actively stabilised over 3 axes.
The design life time is 5 years.
The satellite exploits a low-inclination drifting orbit for frequent observation of equatorial regions.
See detailed description at
Data stored onboard and transmitted to a receiving station belonging to ISRO.
Scientific data processed by CNES at ICARE (Interactions Clouds Aerosols Radiations Etc) and ISRO at MOSDAC (Meteorology & Oceanography Satellite Data Center).
