Satellite Programme: Himawari 3rd generation
Programme details
Programme description
Series of 2 operational meteorological satellites in geostationary orbit.
Follow-on of the 2nd generation Himawari based on MTSAT satellites.
Main developments: mission no longer shared with Transport, much improved imager enabling additional environmental applications
Programme managed by JMA.
The platforms are actively stabilised over 3 axes.
The design life time of the satellites is 8 years.
Nominal position around 140°E.
The replacement policy is based on one satellite in standby in a neighbouring position.
Data circulation
The raw data stream is transmitted to the CDAS (Command and Data Acquisition Station) using a Ka-band frequency in the range 18.1-18.4 GHz.
After pre-processing, the data are available via Internet/FTP,
A plan for data retransmission by a telecommunication satellite is being explored.
