Definition This type of mission designates short-wave spectrometers (UV/VIS/NIR/SWIR) designed for use in atmospheric chemistry, in LEO.
Relevant instruments and their contribution

The sorting column describes how the instruments, by design, have the potential to contribute to certain pre-determined capabilities, assuming nominal operation of space and ground segments. For this particular capability, instrument performance is considered to be driven by:

  • the extension of the spectral range through the UV, VIS, NIR and SWIR bands;
  • the spectral resolution.

 Sorting criteria and colour code:

  1. UV/VIS/NIR/SWIR spectrometer with resolution <=0.6 nm, with spectral coverage including VIS up to 700 nm, NIR around 760 and 940 nm and SWIR up to 2.3 μm,
  2. UV/VIS/NIR/SWIR spectrometer with resolution <=0.6 nm.
  3. UV/VIS/NIR spectrometer with resolution <=0.6 nm and spectral range up to 800 nm.
  4. UV/VIS spectrometer with resolution <=0.6 nm; OR very-high resolution spectrometer addressing narrow bands of CO2.
  5. UV spectroradiometer with >=6 narrow-bandwidth channels.
