BackForwardInstrument:  OMPS-nadir

Instrument details
Acronym OMPS-nadir
Full name Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite
Purpose Atmospheric chemistry - Ozone profile and total-column or gross profile of other species.  Tracked species: BrO, HCHO, NO2, O3, SO2
Short description

Two UV grating spectrometers of spectral resolution 1 nm (sampling at 0.42 nm): Cross-track mapper for total ozone: 300-380 nm, SNR = 1000 Nadir-viewing ozone profiler: 250-310 nm, SNR from 35 @ 250 nm to 400 @ 310 nm

Background

Developed in the framework of the former NPOESS

Scanning Technique

Mapper: cross-track swath 2800 km, along-track one 50-km strip in 7.6 s. Nadir profiler: one along-track sounding every 38 s (250 km)

Resolution Mapper: 50 km on S-NPP but improved to 10km on NOAA-21.  Nadir profiler: 250 km
Coverage / Cycle Global coverage: mapper once/day, nadir profiler in 12 days. Daylight only
Mass 12.5 kg Power Data Rate
