Gap analyses by variable or by type of mission or by WIGOS subcomponent
Variable sorting criteria
Each instrument is assigned with a 5-step rating, evaluated as a blend of several elements such as the uncertainty, the vertical resolution, and the frequency and spatial resolution of the retrieved measurement in comparison with the space-time variability of the geophysical parameter. For this particular Variable, the rating is driven by:
the spectral band (optical or MW);
the multi-viewing (optical) and multi-polarisation (MW) capability:
the synergy between MWIR and TIR.
RATING CRITERIA:
1
MWIR + TIR radiometer with multi-viewing capability
MWIR + TIR spectrometer
2
MWIR + TIR radiometer in GEO or Molniya
MWIR + split window TIR radiometer in LEO
MWIR spectrometer
MW polarimetric radiometer around 7 and 10 GHz
3
MWIR + TIR radiometer
TIR spectrometer
MW polarimetric radiometer around 7 GHz
MW radiometer around 7 and 10 GHz
4
MWIR radiometer
TIR split window radiometer
MW radiometer around 7 GHz
5
TIR radiometer
MW radiometer around 10 GHz
